A turbocharger is a forced induction system component that uses exhaust gas energy to drive a turbine rotor, which compresses the air drawn into the engine. In practice, this means an increase in oxygen levels in the cylinders by up to 30–50% compared to a naturally aspirated engine of the same displacement.
