A turbocharger is a component of the supercharging system that uses exhaust gas energy to drive a rotor that compresses the air drawn into the engine. In practice, this increases the amount of oxygen in the cylinders by as much as 30–50% compared to a naturally aspirated engine of the same displacement. The result is higher torque available at lower RPMs and improved engine flexibility.
